Home of Arizona State University
Downtown Tempe, is known for its lively college atmosphere, the infamous Mill Avenue, and of course Arizona State University. What many visitors may not know is that the brick paved side walks and tree-lined streets of downtown Tempe are rich with history. At the north end of Mill avenue one can find the original flour mill that reminds residents and visitors that this area isn’t your average college town. Once a bustling port stop on the salt river, city officials have worked to restore and maintain much of its original charm. Tempe town lake, which lies at the north end of downtown, is a community park that offers, boating, catch and release fishing, playgrounds, shaded areas for picnics, scenic views and running/biking trails.
In recent years, developers took advantage of “penny’s on the dollar” prices, and have brought new life into a town that was once known just for its university. In the last 5 years the skyline has been dramatically improved with the addition of the 22-story residential tower, West 6th. Modern condo developments, restored historic homes, luxury high-rises and live-work condos add ample options for residents who want to be close to the entertainment, freeways, the airport, and outdoor recreation. With Arizona State University situated on the east side of Mill Avenue, downtown Tempe is always full of friendly visitors that come from all areas of the country. Downtown Tempe is a great landing spot for young professionals, singletons, families, and visitors…there’s something for everyone!
